چکیده

The aim of this study was to detect the presence carbapenem resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli) in cattle and pigs. Altogether, 100 samples were collected, 50 each from pigs including mastitic milk faecal healthy as well diarrhoeic slaughter specimens Bacteria isolated antibiotic sensitivity test carried out. Eight isolates E. obtained 15 phenotypic resistance patterns against carbapenems (ertapenem, imipenem meropenem) analysed. In cattle, four observed be sensitive all three whereas, carbapenems. intestinal showed From a total 10 pigs, four, one ertapenem, meropenem respectively. Among five intestine, isolate ertapenem no meropenem. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) out find genes (blaSHV, blaCTX, blaTEM blaNDM) 23 results revealed that seven (58.3 per cent) blaSHV gene (33.3 contained blaCTX which encodes enzymes. Antibiogram using 14 commonly used antimicrobial agents varied multidrug among isolates.

Prevalence of Multidrug Resistant Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli in Cattle Meat and Its Contact Surfaces

Background: Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are group of E. coli causing bloody diarrhea. The goal of this survey was to determine the prevalence of multidrug resistant shiga toxin-producing E. coli in cattle meat and its contact surfaces. Methods: Swab samples (n=120) were randomly collected from meat and contact surface of butchery shops in Sharkia province, Egypt. Prevalence o...

Detection of Colicin genes by PCR in Escherichia coli isolated from cattle in Shiraz-Iran

A variety of probiotic bacteria have been tested to control animal and foodborne pathogenic bacteria in livestock. The mechanism of inhibition of pathogenic bacteria for several of those probiotic microorganisms is mediated by the production of bacteriocins. Colicins are probably the group of bacteriocins that have been most thoroughly characterized. Colicins are antimicrobial proteins produced...

Detection of carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae producing NDM-1 in Lebanon.

Carbapenem resistance has been encountered globally with poor outcome of infected patients. NDM-1 (New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase) gene containing organisms have emerged and are now spreading in all continents. This is the first report of Iraqi patients referred to Lebanon from whom carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae were recovered. The genes involved in carbapenem resistance were bla-OX...

Verotoxinogenic Escherichia coli O157:H7 in Swedish Cattle and Pigs

Verotoxinogenic E. coli O157:H7 (VTEC O157:H7) can cause severe disease in humans, with bloody diarrhea and complications such as haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and even death. Animals carry VTEC O157:H7 asymptomatically. Ruminants, especially cattle, are considered to be the main reservoir, although the bacterium can occasionally be isolated from o...

PCR detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7 directed from slaughtered cattle in Shiraz, Iran

Escheric hia coli O157:H7 lives in the intestines of healthy cattle, and can contaminate meat during slaughtering pr actices . Detection of the low infectious dosage of bacterium requires a sensitive method. We developed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays to detect the gene Stx2 irrespective of the bacterial serotype. In this study, the detection limit of the PCR protocol in detecting Stx...
